Ancient Greek at Truman State UniversityMeet our faculty, whose interests range from Homer to Theophrastus. Individual members are especially interested in tragedy, history, the New Testament, and lyric poetry. Take Greek at any level (elementary, intermediate, and advanced). Our students study the fundamentals of Attic Greek at the elementary level; prepare readings in Plato, Herodotus, and the New Testament at the intermediate level; and do advanced work in epic and lyric poetry, history, philosophy, and drama. Related Courses: Greek Across the Curriculum Pursue your interest in Greek by taking courses in Greek or Latin literature (in translation), mythology, classical civilization, and gender studies. Select courses in related disciplines, such as art history, rhetoric, ancient history, and philosophy. Consider traveling abroad: several Truman faculty members lead annual trips overseas, including 3-week study tours in Greece (Sacred Sites in Greece), Italy and Germany (The Art of Power), and Egypt (See (More Than) the Pyramids). Students on these trips have visited such places as Athens, Mycenae, Delphi, Florence, Rome, and Cairo.
